Herath),代表該校到本校(虎尾科大),簽約締結姐妹校,及進行為期一週之學術交流,包括參加本校校慶活動、參觀自動化、車輛、動機、飛機維修等系所,產學及建教合作之研究成果與廠商,擬訂未來兩校工學院之教師學術研究合作及學生交換之計畫。
斯里蘭卡全國人口2100萬人,佩瑞迪亞大學為該國歷史最悠久、最大之大學,學生人數約12000人。本次學術交流由川圓科技公司(本校合作廠商),贊助兩台水渀渀,以協助該國推廣養殖漁業,雙方合作探討,水渀渀對漁塭生態、水質改善之主要原因,作為未來水渀渀在環保溼地、景觀生態池及污廢水處理之應用。
亞比亞坤院長表示:水、食物、能源是人類生活最基本、也是最重要之關鍵,淡水對已開發國家雖然相當普遍,但對於開發中國家或第三世界國家,卻是很珍貴之天然資源。斯里蘭卡四面環海、氣候溫和,沒有颱風或暴風雨或工業污染,非常適合推展養殖漁業。水渀渀之曝氣效能卓越,不僅節省養殖用水、提高漁獲產量,更可提高第三世界國家肉類蛋白質之重要來源。
亞比亞坤院長一行,預定下週一到雲林麥寮沿海養殖區,參觀水渀渀之養殖成果及農漁業自動化等相關設備;未來將向該國政府專案報告,建議漁業署長與我國合作,引進我國養殖技術及水渀渀,以改善該國養殖技術,提高人民生活水準及經濟收入。
Prof. S.B.S. Abayakoon
is the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of
Peradeniya since April, 2005.
Prof. S. B. S. Abayakoon graduated from University of
Peradeniya in 1979 with BScEng Degree
with First Class Honours. He proceeded to the University
of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, in 1981, and
successfully completed the
M. A. Sc (Master of Applied Science) Degree in 1983,
specializing in Geotechnical Eng.
He continued his postgraduate education at the UBC and
was awarded the
Ph.D. Degree in 1987, specializing in Structural
Engineering.
At the UBC, he was the recipient of the university
graduate fellowship for six consecutive years, starting
from 1982.
After returning to Sri Lanka, Prof. Abayakoon joined the
teaching staff of the
Department of Civil Engineering,
University of Peradeniya in 1987. He was appointed as
the
Head of the Department of Civil Engineering in 2003
and elected as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in
April, 2005.
Prof. Abayakoon became a
Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri
Lanka in 1993
and was elected as a
Fellow in 2004.
He was adjudged
the winner of Ceylon Development Engineers award
for the best paper published in the Journal ‘Engineer’
in the year 1988/89 for his paper on “Seismic Response
of Low Lying Areas in Colombo, Sri Lanka”. The
Institution of Engineers has obtained his services for
refereeing several articles for the Journal as well as
for Annual Transactions. He has served as a member of
the
Development and Professional Affairs Committee of the
Institution of Engineers in 1994
and was an examiner for Part I and Part II examinations
of the Institution for many years.
Prof. Abayakoon has carried out pioneering research on
engineering aspects of
seismicity
of Sri Lanka, an area that is fast becoming a focal
point after the
Tsunami disaster.
As a visiting researcher, he continued his research at
the University of Tokyo and at the University of British
Columbia as well. Prof. Abayakoon has a large number of
publications to his credit. In the past, Prof. Abayakoon
has served as
a member of Presidential committee on Information
Technology and on the Strategy and Research Committee of
Ministry of Ethnic Affairs and National Integration,
and as a consultant to the Southern area Development
Project.
